There are some places I visited that made me just stop look listen and experience. The Storr is one of those few places. Lets see what Wikipedia has to say about The Storr:
“The Storr (Scottish Gaelic: An Stòr)is a rocky hill on the Trotternish peninsula of the Isle of Skye in Scotland. The hill presents a steep rocky eastern face overlooking the Sound of Raasay, contrasting with gentler grassy slopes to the west.”
It was already noon when we were going towards The Storr and to be honest as I`we seen the photos online before we even went to expedition I wasn`t expecting much more than a touristy place. I was sooo wrong. Entering the place from the car park you pass the gate and have a 30ish minute climb towards the Storr which I used for a wannabe little workout. As I came closer I could feel the greatness of the Storr more and more.
Coming next to The old man of Storr just made me stop, take my earphones off and listen and look in ave. It was like entering a natures cathedral. There weren`t many people so I had no distraction and just looked up at the wonder of nature itself. There are so many layers of time presented in those “stones” that its really hard to comprehend at the moment, but looking back I feel very humbled to have had an opportunity to visit that place.
For the next hour or two I was just walking around the site marveling. It is really one of the few places I visited that made me almost cry of happiness and I didn`t use my camera as AK47 shooting at anything but was looking at the place and looking for the light. We were really lucky that we had amazing weather which just gave us the opportunity to take some amazing shots. We decided to sleep in the car and come back when the sun will be rising.
We woke up around 3am got ready, took our equipment and went hiking back up to the old man of store. The moon was still up and there weren`t many clouds but we felt that the sunrise will be magical. And so it was. Looking at the first rays of sun hitting The Storr and coloring the heavy slow clouds dripping from the back of it was a sight I think I`ll never forget. I am sure that The old man of Storr is a place I will go back to, and Im sure that every time I do come back Ill find a million more details than the last time.
